Obituary for Marilyn Louise Getz Neely

Marilyn Louise Getz Neely, 75, died February 21, 2015 at the San Luis Care Center after a two year struggle with brain cancer. She was born in Monte Vista on November 3, 1939 to Leslie P. Getz and Irene O. Getz. She was married November 24, 1962 in Monte Vista to Braxton Neely.
She is survived by her husband Braxton of the family home, two sons, Tyler (Margaret) Neely of Del Norte; Jason (Annelisa) Neely of Homer, Alaska, four older brothers; Floyd (Judy) Getz of Mesa, Arizona, Melvin (Camille) Getz of Mesa, Arizona, Alan (Charlene) Getz of Temple City, California, Glen (Sue) Getz of Monte Vista, two beautiful granddaughters, Jordyn and Morgan Neely of Del Norte, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Marilyn spent her working career as a bank bookkeeper at Alamosa State Bank, where she was a trusted and appreciated employee for over 30 years. She was an active member of Calvary Bible Chapel in East Alamosa and enjoyed so the love and compassion of her church family. To say that she was blessed with a gentle spirit in line with her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is an understatement. She was also blessed with a giving spirit and always wanted to do something for others. During her life she was a skier, backpacker, horseback rider, and gardener. Riding mountain trails with her family and helping her family gather cows in the fall in the mountains above Creede were activities she cherished. She truly loved the mountains. Gardening, growing and canning fresh vegetables, was a passion and a tradition for her. Being from a close knit family, visiting and being in their presence was truly a joy for her. Marilyn was also a Civil War reenactor and had several beautiful Victorian era dresses she wore as a member of the Ladies of the Garrison of the Fort Garland Memorial Regiment.
Cremation was chosen and the interment will be at a later date. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 28, 2015 at the Calvary Bible Chapel located at 7160 Brush Lane in Alamosa. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Calvary Bible Chapel and reference the Barnabus Fund. The chapel has had the opportunities to share with local needy families. These donations will be used for this purpose only and not for operating expenses at the church.
