ANTONITO - Antonito Resident, Dallas John Norton, 75, Died September 7, 2014 at his home in Antonito, Colorado. He was born May 12, 1939 to Quincy Joseph and Helen Lottie (McCartney) Norton. He married his first wife of 47 seven years, Alice Lorene (Renie) Cornum, who preceded him in death. He then married Sheron Knight, his childhood friend, on October 5, 2009 in Provo Utah with whom he spent the remainder of his life.
Dallas was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings with the church throughout his lifetime, including serving in the Fox Creek Branch Presidency where he truly loved the people whom he served. He was instrumental in the establishment of the new chapel in the Fox Creek area. His involvement was a labor of love. He sent his 6 children on LDS missions throughout the world and supported countless other missionaries during his lifetime.
Dallas was a very caring man who served as a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather (known as “Gumper” to his grandchildren). He never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He was a master mechanic who could fix anything. In later years he loved restoring antique tractors. He held many jobs throughout his life including being a farm consultant as well as a railroad contractor. He loved to work and instilled a great work ethic in his children.
He is survived by his wife Sheron Norton, his children; Erica (Ritchie) McDaniel of Alamosa, Matt (Lisa) Norton of Manassa, Boe (Jeana) Norton of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Terrill (Marlo) Norton of Prescott, Arizona, Travis (Stacy) Norton of Lingle, Wyoming, Kip (Clarissa) Norton of La Jara, his step son, Glen Q. Lowry of Provo, UT, as well as 23 grandchildren, 2 step-grandsons & 4 great grandchildren with 5 more on the way.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings; Delbert Norton, Aileen Sanchez, Alice Horton and Elma Jean Shawcroft as well as his grandson Brett E. McDaniel.
A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. Friday September 12, 2014 at the Manassa second ward chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. Thursday September 11, 2014 and September 12, 2014 from 10:00-10:45 in the Manassa Second Ward Primary Room. Interment will follow services in the Sanford Cemetery.
