Obituary for Ronald Duane "Ron" Nye

Longtime valley resident Ronald “Ron” D. Nye, 73, died November 18, 2013 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa.
Ron was born in Monte Vista, Colorado the son of John Craig and Juanita June Mingus Nye on October 23, 1940. He grew up as a cowboy and enjoyed roping and riding horses.
Ron served in the United States Army during Vietnam as a Helicopter Crew Chief and was awarded a Flight Medal for serving multiple Vietnam missions. In his younger years he participated in the American Legion in Center, Colorado.
Ron’s love was fishing and he loved to take his boat out and fish just about any lake. He was also a trap shooter and member of the Del Monte Gun Club for many years and enjoyed hunting. For more than thirty-five years, Ron bowled in the Monte Vista Men’s League and was recognized for several 300 games.
He is survived by his children Stacey (Matthew) Harner of Pueblo, Colorado and Jerry (Kara) Nye of Alamosa, and Gene (Shayna) Garrett of Alamosa; his grandchildren Cody, Katie and Dakota Harner, Kyle and twins Landon and Taylor Nye, and Heide and Ashley Garret; his sister Della Cooper of Montrose, CO; as well as his niece and nephews Gary (Kathy) Cooper, Penny (Harold) Lovato and J.D. (Melanie) Cooper.
His parents John and Juanita preceded him in death.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Rogers Family Mortuary, 404 Morris Street in Monte Vista. Contributions are suggested to either the La Puente Home in Alamosa or to the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home office.
