Walter George Eavenson crossed over on January 26, 2016.

He was born on September 19, 1925 in Egnar Colorado where his parents, Ethel May Osborn Eavenson and Jesse Vernon Eavenson, were homesteading. The family was living in Montrose when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Walter immediately volunteered for the US Navy at the age of 17, serving on LST 726 and LCT 1274 as an electricians mate. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war he moved to Denver and was employed by Public Service where he worked for 40 years. His sister, Alice, introduced him to his future wife, Betty McKenney, who was a student nurse working with Alice. Walt and Betty were married in Denver in
1947. In 1952 the family transferred to Sterling Colorado and in 1958 moved to Alamosa where they
have lived for 58 years. Walt became a volunteer fireman and served for 20 years, retiring with the rank
of captain. He also enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader for his sons’ troop for many years. He was a
lifetime member of the Alamosa Elks, Alamosa Masonic Lodge and the VFW. In 1959 Walt started
building the home Betty still lives in today. Walt grew up hunting and fly fishing. He also had great fun
skiing and boating with family and his many friends.

His parents, son, Vern Eavenson, and grandson David Foster preceded him in death.

Surviving are Betty, his wife of 68 years, son, Ed (Susie) Eavenson and daughter, Linda Eavenson; grandchildren Birdie Kuhl, Webb (Danielle) Eavenson, Grace Foster, Claire (Derek Fritz) Eavenson and Vern Eavenson.
