Obituary for Lena Loy Jack (DePriest)

Lena Loy  Jack (DePriest)
La Jara – Lena Loy Jack, 80, passed away on August 10, 2016 at the Rio Grande Inn, in La Jara. She was born on January 13, 1936 in Alamosa, Colorado to Orson Lester DePriest and Lena Josephine Pippenger DePriest. At the age of 16, she eloped with Leon King Jack in Taos, New Mexico. A few years after their marriage, she started her career as a Nurse’s Aide at the new Conejos County Hospital, where she worked until she retired.

Lena was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings. She valued education and in her later years, she enrolled at Adams State and took a few courses. She enjoyed crocheting, canning and above all, spending time with her children, grandkids and great grandkids, family events always held a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her husband, Leon Jack of La Jara, her children, Kelvin (Loriann) Jack of Colorado Springs, Sandra (Tim) Johnston of Del Norte, 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, her brother, Leland (Virginia) DePriest and her sister, Linda (Keith) Hard and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Glenda Hazlitt, her son Philip Jack, her brother Larry DePriest, her grandson Devin Johnston and her great grandson Jessie Hazlitt.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, August 13, 2016 at the Manassa 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A visitation will be held prior to the service today from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Primary Room at the Church. Burial will follow in the Manassa Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Manassa 1st Ward Missionary fund and can be made in care of the funeral home office.
