Obituary for George A Wolf

Longtime valley resident George Alferd Wolf, 90, passed away on September 9, 2016 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa. He was born on August 12, 1926 in Center, Colorado to Wallace and Ella Popp Wolf.

George attended Sargent school through the 6th grade, before moving over to Hooper, where he graduated. George was a cattle rancher for 50 years. For a brief time, he was a custom hay contractor. He enjoyed pinochle, fishing, hunting, spending time in the mountains, motorhome trips across the United States, animals and his family. He was a former member of the Cattleman’s Association.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn Wolf of Alamosa, his daughter, Janis Marie (Garet) Rutgers of Alamosa, his nieces and nephews, Gloria Weinberger, Linda (Danny) Doss, Sandra (William) Behnke, Calvin (Joyce) Wolf, Jolie Wolf, Gene Wolf, Lenora (Larry) Brooks, Lavonne (Tim) Palmer, Darrell (Kim) Dobson, Randy (Jeri) Mitchell, Mark (Dori) Mitchell, Rodney (Keri) Mitchell, Kent (Judy) Mitchell, Kaye (Bill) Johnson, his brothers-in-law, Larry (Ann) Mitchell, Robert (Pauline) Mitchell, his sister-in-law, Bertha (Ben) Dobson as well as many other extended family.

George was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Joe Wolf, Fred Wolf, Laura Holterman, Myra Wallace, Pearl Sedor, Alta Dodson, Calvin Wolf and Daisy Wolf.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 14, 2016 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 13, 2016 and before the service on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Contributions are suggested to the Alamosa Christian Reform Church and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
