Dorothy Sutak aged 91, was born April 15, 1925 in Aguilar, Colorado to John and Josephine Sutak. She passed away peacefully at San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, Colorado.

Dorothy’s life began in Alamosa when she was a toddler. She along with her family moved to begin a new life on a small farm and ranch south of Alamosa. Dorothy graduated from Star High School in 1942. After graduation she worked at Helen’s Beauty Quest as a receptionist and also assisted Helen with various duties in her shop. In 1944 she began working as a secretary to Mr. C. L. Foote, manager of San Luis Valley Federal Savings and Loan Association. When in 1955 her sister Violet and brother-in-law Ernest’s son took ill, she quit her job to help the family through a very difficult time. An opportunity later that year took her to Albuquerque where she was a secretary at Lytle Engineering Co. Her skills as a secretary led to secretarial positions under Controller of University of New Mexico, the President and General Manager of AVC, Inc., Albuquerque, Kaiser Industries, Oakland, CA, Daniel S. Hoffman, Junior Partner in Law Firm of Fugate, Mitchem & Hoffman, Denver, CO and then returned to Albuquerque to work as legal secretary to Attorney at Law John P. Dwyer. In 1973 she began her career as Director of Patient Accounting at Lovelace-Bataan Hospital from which she retired 20 years later. She became a member of the National Secretary Association New Mexico Chapter, held positions on the board and was honored one year as National Secretary of the Year for New Mexico.

Dorothy showed great and endearing love for our Lord and the Catholic Church, the Dominican Retreat House and Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, her hobbies, her friends and her family. But most of all her family. Although she never married and had children, she loved each and every one of her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews as if they were her own children and grandchildren. Several even called her Grandma Dorothy. Her life was long and well lived. She achieved many of her goals in life, but that which brought her the most pride was buying her own home. Dorothy served on many boards, supported many charities, volunteered many hours at the Retreat House and church, traveled to many cities and countries and shared many happy hours with her great and dear friends in Albuquerque.

Dorothy is survived by her sister Violet Moeller of Antonito, CO, Dennis (Myrna) Moeller of Antonito, CO, Christine (Tim) Haslett of Alamosa, CO, Wayne (Tami) Moeller of Folsom, CA, Joanne (Kevin) Moon of Langhorne, PA, and John, Mark, Diana, and Randy, children of her brother Johnny Sutak. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents John and Josephine Sutak, brother Johnny Sutak and brother-in-law Ernest Moeller.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, CO in her name.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, CO. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment following at the La Jara Cemetery.
