Lifetime Monte Vista resident Leon Ross Roybal, 62, died January 6, 2017 at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.

Leon was born in Monte Vista, Colorado on July 6, 1954 to Jose Flavio Roybal and Florence Marie Lovato Beatres. He married Margaret Ann Schneider in Monte Vista on November 15, 1996.

Leon worked for many years managing KW Farms near Mosca. He loved working as a Farmer and Rancher and was a bit of a cowboy at heart. Leon was also a diesel mechanic. He loved spending time in the mountains fishing and primitive camping, and always had his camera just in case a good photographic opportunity arose.

Leon enjoyed cooking, growing vegetables in his garden, and was an avid Denver Broncos fan.

He is survived by his mother Florence Beatres; his wife Margaret Roybal of Monte Vista; his children Le John (Brandy) Roybal of Aurora, CO, Tabitha Leann (Luke) Aanenson of Aurora, CO; his stepchildren: Joaquin Lujan of Alamosa, Nicholas Peek of Monte Vista, CO and Sarah Herrera of Monte Vista; his grandchildren: Nathaniel, Delilah, Sherry, Rebecca, Matthew, Darrien, Torrina, Donovan, Enrique and Brytni; his sisters Louise (Dean) Sisneros of Monte Vista and Joyce (Henry) Vigil of Denver; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family and friends.

Leon is preceded in death by his father, his son Leon R. Roybal, Jr., step-son David Lujan, step-daughter Lena Lujan, and his brother Richard Roybal.

Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Rio Grande Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Contributions are suggested to the LDS Church Temple Fund, 1536 Sickles Street, Monte Vista, CO 81144.
