La Jara resident Marissa Luz Cervantez, 30, passed away on January 16, 2017. She was born on January 10, 1987 in La Jara, Colorado. Marissa enjoyed watching football, taking care of her grandmother, cooking and spending time with “the crew” and especially being with her son and her family. Those that knew her will miss her laugh.

She is survived by her son, Davian Cervantez, her parents, Sylvia and Michael Maez and Floyd Herrera, her sister Matilde and her brothers Eloy (Espiranza) and D’Andre. Her grandmother Maria Cervantez, her aunts and uncles, Balbina and Cruz Zarazua, Emma and Jose Torres, Quirino, Jr. and Glenda Cervantez, Juanita Martinez and Elmer, Rosemarie Gonzales, Angie Gonzales, Manuel Cervantez, Ruben and Angel Cervantez and C.J. Maez as well as the Herrera family, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as “The Crew”.

Marissa was preceded in death by her grandfather Quirino Cervantez, her grandmother, Dolores, her uncles Lupe “The Duff” Cervantez and Joey “Ted” Archuleta.

A joint Funeral Mass will be held for Marissa and her uncle Lupe Cervantez at 11:00 AM on Monday January 23rd, 2017 at the St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Capulin. A Recitation of the Rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM on Sunday January 22nd, 2017 also at the church. Burial will follow in the Capulin Cemetery.
