Obituary for Barbara Ann Kreiner (Bettinger)

Barbara Ann Kreiner (Bettinger)
Barbara Kreiner, 66, died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at San Luis Valley Regional Hospital after many years of living with severe rheumatoid arthritis. She leaves her loving husband John who always made her smile with his warmth and love.

Barbara was born on November 9, 1950 to Phil and Angela Bettinger and was raised in Plain, Wisconsin where her family owned a grocery store. She and her six siblings learned many life skills working in the store as they grew up.

Barbara attended the University of Wisconsin were she received her bachelors and masters degrees in Special Education. After a short time in Denver, Barbara moved to Alamosa to teach at Blue Peaks and transitioned to San Luis Valley Board of Cooperative Services, teaching in severe needs class rooms in Alamosa and Monte Vista. She was a long-term staff member of The San Luis Valley Camp for Children with Special Needs. After earning a masters degree in counseling from Adams State College in 1991, she began working in a group practice with Mary Hennessey and Elinor Bethke. Over the next 21 years she provided meaningful service and support for children and adults.

Barbara met her husband John here in Alamosa and they were married on July 9, 1983. She was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, walking, music and good friends. She loved her pets and they loved her in return. We will all remember her smile and humor.

Her mother father and beloved mother-in-law preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, John, her sisters Jackie, Judith, Jeanie, Kim and Kay and brother Louie; and in-laws Betty Kay, Karlos, and Kristine. She will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and friends around the country.

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, January 28 at 12 noon at Society Hall, 400 Ross Avenue, Alamosa. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Blue Peaks Developmental Services or A Kid’s Place, both in Alamosa.
