Favorite memories of Jim

Jim saved my bacon on many occasions but here are my two favorites:

One summer when I was about 12 years old or so he offered to let me work at the tire store for a week to fill in while Anthony was on vacation and I started learning a few things about tires, pushing brooms and dealing with customers.  A woman came into the shop to sell some old junky rims to Jim for a few bucks and he asked me to go to her car and get them out.  Being a young greenhorn, I looked in her trunk and grabbed the only thing that seemed to be remotely valuable: her spare tire. When she came back later that day to chew me out, I was scared to death but Jim stepped in and calmed her down because she knew some pretty bad words, some of them in Spanish!

When I was a bit older, we held a pie auction at church for a youth group fundraiser and I remember thinking there was no way a table of home-baked pies would be sufficient to raise enough money to go on our trip to the nat'l youth gathering.  Jim started out the bidding on just about every pie and did all he could to push the bid amounts to incredible heights!  His bidding wars brought $20 or more for many of the pies and we were well on our way.  I sure hope he enjoyed the pies that he won because they were the most expensive pies known to mankind.

I will miss Jim but I have a lot of great memories of him to cherish and he will always be an example of how to be a servant to others.
