Obituary for Lorraine Bertha Roberts

Lorraine Bertha  Roberts
Longtime resident Lorraine B. Roberts, 87, passed away on February 4, 2017 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa.

She was born on January 6, 1930 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Jose and Inocencia Solis. Her Spaniard father and Basque mother were originally from Spain. The family moved to Alamosa, Colorado in 1944. Lorraine, with her high school sweetheart, Don Roberts, graduated from Alamosa High School in 1947. They were married December 1, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. In January of 1961, Don and Lorraine bought a small ranch five miles east of Del Norte, where they raised their seven children. Don preceded Lorraine in death on October 7, 2001. Lorraine continued to live on the ranch until 2008.

Lorraine worked off and on in retail while her children were growing up. Later she was employed at the Rio Grande Department of Social Services with the LEAP program. She had been an active member of the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Del Norte. She had a lovely voice and sang in the choir for many years.

She was an accomplished artist, exhibiting her work in various shows and galleries. She studied with some well-known artists and was fortunate to exhibit two of her ink on clay board portraits at the Denver Art Museum.
Lorraine treasured her friends and family. She loved gatherings, especially Christmas. Some of her greatest times were spent with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Rosalyn Roberts of Seattle, Washington, Darlene (Joe) Mellott of Monte Vista, Norman (Greta) Roberts of Alamosa, Brian (Mary K) Roberts of Monte Vista, Chris (Kathy) Roberts of Irvine, California, Cynthia (Jake Jakupciak) Roberts of Silverthorne, Colorado and Don (Teri) Roberts of Durango, Colorado as well as ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren (soon to be eight) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her grandson, Todd Mellott, three half-sisters and one half-brother

A visitation and gathering of friends and family will be held Friday February 10th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista. Located at 404 Morris Street in Monte Vista.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Del Norte. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 11, 2017 also at the church and interment will follow the services in the Del Norte Cemetery.
