Obituary for Alejandro Steve Martinez

Lifetime Monte Vista resident Alex S. Martinez, 90, passed away at his home in Monte Vista on May 31, 2017.

Alex was born in Monte Vista, Colorado on August 7, 1926 to Antonio A. and Helena Leyba Martinez.

Alex entered into the United States Army in 1944 and served as a Green Beret honorably. He had a passion for fishing and spent many hours outdoors fishing. Because of his love of fishing, he tied many fishing flies during his lifetime. Alex also enjoyed gardening.

Alex is survived by his children Sandra Eileen Soto Lopez Baez, Michael Steve Martinez, Anthony Lawrence Martinez, Floyd Blas Martinez, Thomas Edward Martinez and Leonard Robert Martinez, all of Denver; his niece that he raised Tina M. Reyes of Monte Vista; his nieces and nephews: Daniel Martinez, Aaron Martinez, John Martinez, Cayetana Quintana and Simon Sisneros; his sister Vera Moreno of La Jara, CO; his grandchildren Matthew Johnson, Susan Fernandez, Natasha Martinez, Casandra Tafoya, and Christy Martinez; as well as numerous extended nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his children Lydia Gonzales Herrera, and his family members Fred James Martinez, Lupe Emily Sisneros, Ruby Torrez, Vera Martinez and Blas Martinez.

Cremation was chosen and a Graveside of Ashes will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Homelake Veterans Cemetery in Monte Vista.
