Obituary for Margaret Alice Davis

Margaret Alice Davis
Margaret Alice Fletcher Davis, passed away September 11, 2017 at The Bridge at Alamosa assisted living facility. Margaret was born in Mansfield Ohio in 1924 to Raymond Fairbanks Fletcher and Dorothy Mae Clake Fletcher.

She lived in Marion Ohio until she was 7 and in Portsmouth Ohio through college. She graduated from Portsmouth High school and Ohio Wesleyan University, then taught first grade in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Her favorite unit was about cowboys and the west.

When her parents purchased the Alamosa Courier and asked her to help out for a summer, it became the trip that lasted a lifetime. She settled in Alamosa, did graduate work at Adams State College, and met her cowboy. Margaret and Edgar Davis were married at the old Seven Gables Methodist Church in Alamosa, and bought a ranch near Mosca. After many years of ranching, the family moved to town. They purchased the Spudnut shop which they owned and operated for 32 years. Margaret always remembered the wonderful people who came to buy Spudnuts and all the children that came for penny candy. Many of them remember her as Mrs. Spudnut or the candy lady.

Margaret has been a member of Mosca Extension club, Mosca Methodist Church, the Seven Gables Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church in Alamosa, the Federation of Women’s Clubs, and Women’s Citizenship club. She was very active in volunteering at Hospice de Valle, the annual Cancer walk, and the San Luis Valley Museum. Margaret’s great joy in life was poetry and she would recite it for you at the drop of a hat.

Edgar lost his battle with Cancer in 1999 and Margaret moved to the Bridge at Alamosa in 2012.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Fletcher, and husband Edgar.

She is survived by their children Susan (Carlos) Lara, Robert (Ada) Davis, and Diane (David) Puntenney, grandchildren: Alicia (Shawn) Olivas, Marlena (Charles) Johnson, Adelina (Greg) Bjornerud, Armando (Dominique) Lara, Kelli Davis, Zachary (Christine) Davis, Kristin (Ethan) Coombs, Hannah Davis, Mariah (Sean) Robinson, and Jamie Puntenney, and 14 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at The Bridge at Alamosa, 3407 Carroll in Alamosa. A Graveside Committal will follow at 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Alamosa Cemetery.
