Alamosa resident Leona Christensen, 88, died September 17, 2017 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa.

Leona was born in La Jara, Colorado on December 23, 1928 the proud daughter of Clark and EuDell Nielson Hutchinson. She married Allen Harold Christensen (Bud) on June 29, 1947 in La Jara, Colorado and their marriage was later sealed for all time and eternity in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Leona was an active member of the La Jara and Alamosa Wards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for many years. She loved playing Bridge and participated in many Bridge games with friends over the past 50 years. Leona is remembered by her family as being an excellent cook, an accomplished seamstress and supporter of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Charlotte (Mike) Carpenter of Farmington, New Mexico, Perry (Debbie) Christensen of Lehi, Utah, Rosalyn Olson of South Jordan, Utah and Sandra Hostetter of Alamosa, CO; her grandchildren Aubrey, Damon, Beau, Trace, Colby, Whitney, Michael, Morgan, Kristin, Brianne, Lance and Nicolas; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Leona is preceded in death by her parents Clark and EuDell, her husband Allen, her sisters Lola Hutchinson and Luella Christensen.

Leona’s family will greet friends and family from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning, September 21, 2017 in the Relief Society Room at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in La Jara. The Funeral Service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow the funeral services at the Sanford Cemetery.

Contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association in her memory, and may be made either online or through the funeral home office.
