Doris “Pauline” Baxter Moore, 94, died December 27, 2017 in Del Norte. Pauline’s life began in western Oklahoma forged in the dirt of the Dust Bowl and the Depression on November 6, 1923. Her beginnings in the richness of this land and her caring family created the person she became. These surroundings allowed Pauline to grow in strength, wisdom and most importantly love which she offered to all who came into her life.

She went to college to become a teacher. Her first job took her to Tribune, Kansas where she met and married Frank Archer Moore, the love of her life, on June 1, 1948. Pauline’s second great love was teaching young people. This influenced decades of students, making the world of science come alive for them.

Pauline and Frank lived in many places as they continued to educate themselves. They had three children Mary, Frank and Linda, who joined them in their journey through this life. Along the way others became “their children” and added to the richness of life. Pauline’s home became a gathering place where she took in anyone in need of a bed, delicious food or a shoulder to lean on.

Pauline delighted her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as the many people who passed through her home with her love of music, the holidays and her homemade cinnamon rolls.

She is preceded in death by her parents George and Frankie (Rogers) Baxter, her husband Frank Moore, her brother and his wife Hurshel and Norene Baxter and many dear friends.

Carrying on her legacy are her daughter Mary Rutledge of Milford, OH and her three children Cooper, Carly and Corey; her son Frank Moore and his wife Betsy of Broken Arrow, OK and their two sons Shelby and Winston; her daughter Linda Owsley and her husband Charles of Del Norte, CO and their four children Megan, Nicholas, Daniel and David; and her twelve cherished great-grandchildren; “Other Children” Wanda McCurry, Dale Barron, Vida (Adams) Martinez, Dick Thomas, Peggy (Fernandez) Caddell; her nieces Kathy Washeck and Karen Call; and nephews Bill and Marc Londo.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Alamosa Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Contributions in her memory can be made to the San Luis Valley Regional Science Fair, P.O. Box 1420, Alamosa, CO 81101.
