Obituary for Leland Roy McDaniel

Leland Roy McDaniel, 89, passed away at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa, Colorado on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Leland was born on September 6, 1928 to Roy and Opal McDaniel. Leland was married and sealed to the love of his life, Martha Ann Wright, in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on June 7, 1958. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage together until Martha’s passing in 2010.

Leland loved working on his farm. He spent as much time as he could working the land and enjoying life. He was also a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Throughout his life he honorably served in many positions within the church. One of Leland’s greatest passions was basketball. He loved talking basketball with anyone that would listen. He enjoyed basketball so much he played “Church Ball” well into his sixties. As much as he loved his farm and basketball, they both paled in comparison to the love he felt for his family. He loved each of them beyond definition and upon his passing will leave a hole in their hearts that will not easily be filled.

Leland is survived by his daughter, Sharon McDaniel of Surprise, Arizona. His granddaughter, Taylor Ward of Scottsdale, Arizona. His grandsons; Jared McDaniel and Joshua McDaniel both of Alamosa, Colorado. His siblings; Janice Moody of Utah, William McDaniel of Utah, Earl McDaniel of California, and Eldred McDaniel of La Jara, Colorado. As well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Opal McDaniel, his loving wife Martha Ann McDaniel, and his son Marshall McDaniel.
