The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Louise Sowards can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Memories of Louise

To Louise's family, I want to express my deep sorrow for their loss. She was a great lady. I got to know Louise many years ago when we worked together at Conejos County Hospital. It was because of her combination of skills as a nurse that I realized rural nursing is a specialty. As a nurse in a small hospital, Louise was more than proficient, she was excellent, whether she was circulating in the operating room, caring for cardiac patients in intensive care, handling trauma in the emergency room, working alongside a physician to deliver a baby, or taking care of medical patients from pediatrics to geriatrics, she did it all and she did it with grace and compassion. It was a privilage to know her, and I will never forget her.
