Obituary for Betty Carolyn Harmsen

Betty Carolyn Harmsen
Betty Carolyn Harmsen, 91, passed away at The Bridge Assisted Living Facility in Alamosa, Colorado on March 30, 2018. Betty was born on April 9, 1926 in Bountiful, Colorado to Frank and Elsie (Christian) Ross.
Betty graduated from the La Jara Highschool in the spring of 1943. Shortly after graduation she married the love of her life, Louis Martin Harmsen, in Taos, New Mexico on June 8, 1943.

Betty was an amazing cook and baker, every year the family looked forward to getting a box of her homemade Christmas goodies. When the family gathered together Betty was always the last to sit and eat simply because she loved taking care of her family. She would always make sure no one went away hungry from her home. While serving with the Conejos County Hospital Auxiliary Annual BBQ Fundraiser, she also helped to make sure that community didn’t leave there hungry either.

For decades, she did volunteer work at her church that she and Louis attended faithfully.

Betty wasn’t just a great cook, she was a great helping hand on the farm. You could always find her out helping Louis with the livestock or running a tractor to get the fields ready. She truly was always willing to help and serve in any way she could
.
Later in life Betty enjoyed Square-dancing with Louis and the club they were a part of. They would travel all over the valley in their matching outfits dancing, meeting people, and making everlasting memories.

Betty is survived by her son, Gordon (Judy) Harmsen of Conroe, Texas, Daughter Joann (Kenneth) Barron of Spring, Texas; Grandchildren, Cindy (Bill) Duckworth, Cathy Barttelbort, James (Janet) Reynolds, Craig (Whitney) Harmsen, Rachelle (Chase) Bunting; great grandchildren, Bailey and Brittney Duckworth, and Cole and Owen Harmsen. Her siblings; Ted (Doris) Ross and Frances Ross all of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her Sister in Law, Burneace Ross. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Frank and Elsie Ross. Her loving husband, Louis Harmsen. Her son, Louis Lee Harmsen. Her siblings; Joe Ross, and Bob Ross. As well as her sister in law, Betty Ann Ross.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the United Church of La Jara at 522 Walnut in La Jara, Colorado.
