Obituary for Betty Jo Croft

Longtime Alamosa resident Betty Jo Croft, 79, passed away May 24, 2018 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.

Betty Jo was born in Gunnison, Colorado on June 11, 1938, the daughter of Fred Vernon and Josephine Verzuh. She moved with her family from Gunnison to Chama, New Mexico, then to Blanca, Colorado where she graduated in 1956 from Sierra Grande High School. She worked for Safeway in Alamosa for 15+ years as a clerk.

Betty Jo spent many hours working on her yard and cooking for her family. As a past-time hobby she enjoyed reading books and had nearly every book written by Zane Grey. She also enjoyed her favorite cocker spaniel Sammy.

She is survived by her children Wayne “Butch” (Tammy) Crowther, Jr., of Sanford, CO, Mike (Robin) Crowther of Page, AZ, and Brenda (Garnet) Omoth of Billings, Montana; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, her brother Donald Vernon of Denver, CO and one niece and one nephew; as well as a host of cousins and extended family and friends.

Betty Jo is preceded in death by her parents, her brother John, her son Warren Crowther, her grandson Brandon Crowther, and her great-granddaughter Neveah Cook.

A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Sanford Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Valley Humane League, 6414 County Road 107 South, Alamosa, CO 81101.
