Obituary for Maxine Rupert

Maxine Baker Rupert passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 29, 2018 at a respectable age of 93 (she won!). She was an award-winning quilter, a master gardener, and an outstanding writer. Maxine was born in 1925 in Briggsville, Wisconsin. Maxine graduated from Portage high school in 1943. In 1949, Maxine moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico to live with her sister Edna. Maxine worked as an administrative assistant at the DP East facility at the laboratory, where she met her future husband, George Rupert. They were married in 1951, and Maxine worked until 1953, when she gave birth to her first son, Jerry. Maxine took 16 years off work to raise her three sons, Jerry, Jon, and Michael. She then returned to the workforce to work for Los Alamos County, Los Alamos Labs, and Moore and Associates.

Maxine was preceded in death by her brothers William and Robert, her sisters Edna and Gertrude, and her sons Jerry and Jon.

She is survived by her son Michael (and his wife Sharon Kurashige).

Her vitality and joy of life will be missed by all who knew her. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to their local food bank in her memory. Memorial services will be arranged at a later date. T
