Longtime Center resident Lora Jean “Lorie” Entz, 79, passed away at the University of Colorado Health Medical Center in Aurora on September 7, 2014.
Lorie’s life began on November 12, 1934 in Elkhart, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Etha Mae Hargrove Chambers. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Monte Vista, CO. She attended and graduated from Monte Vista High School. Shortly following her graduation she married Lewis H. Entz on November 24, 1952 at the Bowen Church near Waverly. She and her husband Lewis would enjoy more than 61 years together.
Lorie helped Lewis start and operate the family farm near Center and drove potato trucks for more than 20 years. She was a Homemaker and loved her family dearly, supporting them throughout many of their endeavors and adventures. Lorie especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare time she liked playing bridge and was very active in the Center community and the Center Baptist Church. Lorie was a charter member of the Town and Country Federated Women’s Club of Center for 59 years. The members all remember her as a gracious, loving woman, caring about others; a true friend. She was a great mentor to the new members joining the Club. She was honored as a Master Homemaker and a member of the Stanley Club and the American Baptist Women. She loved singing in the church choir and enjoyed her flowers. She and her husband traveled the world and took their children back to Prussia/Poland to experience where their family roots began. Lorie is survived by her loving husband Lewis of Center; her children Cynthia (Ronald) Chapman of Alamosa, Michael (Rhonda) Entz of Pagosa Springs, CO, Cassandra (Dennis) Curtis of Mosca, CO, and Catherine (James) Wright of Monte Vista; her grandchildren Jared (Brandi) Myers, Amanda Myers, Brynna (Aaron) Jones, Sarah (Zeke) Wright and Emily Wright; her great-grandchildren Paige Myers, Bowen Myers, Peyton Athmer, Jordan Jones, Haylee Wright and Brentlee Sisneros; her siblings Maxine (Ken) Howard of Longmont, CO and James (Shirley) Chambers of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her grandchildren Kristopher Entz and Brooke Entz. A Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11th at the Rogers Family Mortuary, 404 Morris St. in Monte Vista. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Center Baptist Church, 325 Worth Street, in Center, Colorado.
