Obituary for Adolph E. Newton

Alamosa – Longtime Alamosa resident Adolph E. Newton, 88, passed away on May 3, 2015. He was born on May 14, 1926 in Alamosa, Colorado to Fredrick Newton and Genera Medina Newton. During World War II he honorably served his country as a decorated Staff Sergeant in the United States Army having fought in the Asian-Pacific Campaign in Okinawa. Following his time in the service, he returned to Alamosa and married Julia Manzanares, raising a family of 5. He began his working career with Asay Furniture, which led to his final career with the United States Postal Service. Adolph became a local favorite Postal Clerk with many loyal customers. Adolph was a very active part of the community, he volunteered for many groups and organizations. He was an integral part of the Alamosa Boys and Girls Club and the Alamosa Senior Citizen Center and was instrumental in the fundraising and construction of both facilities. He was also voted citizen of the year in Alamosa.
Adolph is survived by his children, Christine Newton of Alamosa, Michael Newton of Arvada and Jayne (Jeff) Newton-Parks of Phoenix, Arizona, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren as well as his siblings, Tom (Solema) Newton of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Martinez of Denver, Edith (Steve) Mondragon of Colorado Springs and Frank (Elaine) Newton of Thornton, as well as extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Kenneth A. Newton and Gerald W. Newton, as well as his siblings, Margaret Martinez, William Newton, Richard Newton, John Newton and Charles Newton.
Cremation was selected and a Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday May 9, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening also at the church. Inurnment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Adolph Newton Memorial fund and may be made in care of Rogers Family mortuary.
