Opal was born the oldest of 13 children. She gave birth to 11 children of her own, but she was known as “Mom” to many.
Opal first visited the San Luis Valley in 1987 and loved it. She moved here in 2005 with her daughter Janet and son-in-law Bufford Blaney. She loved the valley and all the beautiful mountains all around us. Opal enjoyed traveling but most of all loved yard sales in the summer and gleaning the potato fields in the fall.
She wanted to express her gratitude to all those who took care of her, especially Janet and Bufford for all their love and care, to Peggy and Darla for their helping hands, FNP Emelio Martinez and RN Gwen at the Valley-Wide Health not only for taking care of her medical needs but the love you all showed to her, the ladies at hospice with a very special thanks to CNA Tess for the extra love and care she gave and to Jan at The Hairport Salon for the loving care she gave in doing her hair.
Funeral Services will be held in Greenfield, Illinois later this week with burial following next to her husband in the Oakwood Cemetery.
