Alamosa – Longtime Monte Vista resident Jose E. “Bill” Martinez, 89, passed away on May 3, 2016 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa. He was born on October 30, 1926.in Ignacio, Colorado to Delfido and Emelia Von Budenbrock Martinez.

Bill grew up in Ignacio Colorado. In January of 1948 he married Nellie Lucero in Aztec, New Mexico. They moved to the Monte Vista area in 1967 where they lived and he farmed until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. He was a very quiet man, he enjoyed babysitting his grandkids, gardening watching westerns and above all, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Martinez, his children; Ron (Glenda) Martinez, Kathy (Patricio) Trujillo, Doris (Harold) Moore, Arlene (Don) Martinez-Wilson, Joey (Phyliss) Martinez, Manuel (Juanita) Martinez and Kasey (Sharyn) Martinez, 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren as well as his special daughters-in-law, Anna Herrera, Cynthia Martinez, Debra Martinez and Jenelle Creamer, his brother Dale Martinez, his sister-in-law Romona (Abe) Munoz as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Cremation was selected and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Vigil Service with Recitation of The Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 4, 2016 also at the church in Monte Vista. Inurnment of the ashes will follow the services in the Monte Vista Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Infusion Center at San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
