Ellen E. Romero, 92 of Alamosa, CO. went to her eternal home on Monday, May 16, 2016. She passed away at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Ellen was born March 23, 1924 the daughter of Jim and Lucy Lopez.

Ellen was united in marriage to Martin E. Romero, Jr. of Alamosa on April 2, 1945 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, Colorado. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Ellen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, CO., a choir member at the church, a proud Charter member of the Catholic Daughters of the American Court 1810; a volunteer Grey Lady at the hospital and a Stanley Home Products representative. She retired from Kavley’s Department Store after 35 years of meeting and helping people. Upon retiring, she continued her active lifestyle by enjoying her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and visiting friends. Her holiday meals were always a special treat, a delicious turkey, trimmings, and pumpkin pie. Her family was her pride.

Survivors include her husband, Martin E. Romero of Alamosa, daughters Veronica R. Gallegos (George) of La Jara, CO., Monica Genesio (John) of Alamosa, CO., and son, Jerome (Brenda) Romero of Lakewood, CO. Grandchildren; Joaquin Gallegos, Jude Gallegos, Georgette Chavez, Sabina Genesio, Sonia Genesio, Gina Shiba, Marisa Fricke, Michelle Romero, and Jared Romero. Ellen had eight great grandchildren. She is survived by one brother, Jimmy (Bonnie) of Maryland, four sisters, Margaret (Reggie) Romero, Rose (Gene) Lampert, Nadine Hanks all from Denver, CO., and Priscilla (Maynard) Garcia from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents Jim and Lucy Lopez, one infant grandson, Jerard Wayne Gallegos, and one son-in-law George A. Gallegos. Her brothers John, Earl, Dave, Walter, Donnie and one sister Loretta Lopez.

A Catholic Recitation of the Rosary will be held Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, CO. A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held Monday, May 23, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, CO. Interment to follow at the Alamosa Cemetery.
