Obituary for Sadie E. Salazar (Pena)
Lifetime Alamosa resident Sadie Salazar, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 16, 2016 at the Rio Grande Inn nursing home in La Jara.
Sadie’s life began on July 7, 1933 in Alamosa, born to Abel Pena and Mollie Pacheco Pena. She married Sergio Celestino Salazar on June 24, 1951 in Questa, New Mexico and they were married for more than 58 years until his passing in December of 2009.
Sadie worked for many years as a Cashier and Stocker for Gibsons & K-Mart. She loved spending time in the outdoors and mountains with her family and enjoyed camping. Sadie loved the Lord and always listened to Jimmy Swaggert on the Television during his praise and worship. She was an active member of the Feed Store Church in Monte Vista for many years.
Sadie also liked to cook and will be remembered for her amazing tortillas, enchiladas and tamales. She had many friends throughout the community and cherished the times spent with them conversing and enjoying each others company. She was a devoted wife, mother,mother-in-law, grandmother and sister.
Sadie is survived by her children Sam (Virginia) Salazar of Monte Vista, Sandra Fritz of Alamosa, Sergio (Amy) Salazar of Alamosa, Steve (Anna) Salazar of Alamosa, Sharon (Albert) DeHerrera of Alamosa, Abel (Jennifer) Salazar of La Jara and Maggie (Dwayne Marquez) Salazar of Alamosa; her brothers and sisters Jenny Santisteven of Needles, CA, Abel (Geri) Pena, Jr. of Needles, CA, Margaret Pena of California, and Virginia Reyes of California; as well as 20 loving grandchildren, 38 loving great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and a host of friends.
Sadie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sergio in 2009, her grandchildren: Abel S M Salazar, Samuel T.L. Salazar and Cody Fritz; her great-grandchildren: Mercedes Salazar, Isaiah Paul, Abel Trae Salazar and Steven Samuel Salazar; and her brother Rudy Pena.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A Funeral Service will take place 10:00 am Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Feed Store Church in Monte Vista. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
