Martin E. Romero 92 of Alamosa, Colorado peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family at Willowbrook Place in Littleton, Colorado on July 22, 2O16.

Martin was born September 26, 1923 in Alamosa, CO to Martin and Ciria Romero. On April 2, 1945, he married his lifelong love, Ellen Elizabeth Lopez at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa, Colorado. During their 71 years together, they prayed and worked hard to be good faithful servants to their God and taught their family to do the same.

Martin was an active member of Sacred Heart Church throughout his life. ln his younger years, he helped with fundraising spaghetti dinners, helped build cabins at Sacred Heart Campground, and helped establish Sacred Heart Credit Union. As time passed, Martin served as a lector, choir member, and an usher at Sunday liturgies. He has been a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2096 and is a Fourth Degree Knight.

Martin was employed by Public Service Utilities Company and retired after 27 years. He installed natural gas lines throughout the San Luis Valley and made many acquaintances in that capacity. Everyone that encountered Martin knew his genuine kindness, generosity, and pleasant personality. Retirement allowed Martin time to enjoy his morning coffee with friends, to work in his yard, and to spend time with his family. He will be missed dearly.

Survivors include daughters, Veronica Gallegos of La Jara, CO and Monica Genesio (John) of Alamosa, CO. and son, Jerome Romero (Brenda) of Lakewood, CO. Grandchildren are: Joaquin Gallegos, Jude Gallegos, Georgette Chavez, Sabina Genesio, Sonia Genesio, Gina Shiba, Marisa Fricke, Michelle Romero, and Jared Romero. Martin had eight great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law that also survive him.

Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen E. Romero; his parents, Martin and Ciria Romero; infant grandson, Jerard W. Gallegos; and son-in-law, George A. Gallegos. Brothers and sisters of Martin that have passed away are Abran, Juan, Rueben, Chris, Pete, Mollie, Tillie, Flora, Susie, and lsabel Romero.

A Catholic Recitation of the Rosary will be Sunday, July 31, 2016 at 7 PM at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa, Colorado. A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be Monday, August 1, 2016 at 1 PM at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa, Colorado. Interment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery.
