I met Fern Rice on the first day of my life, February 14, 1943. I don't remember much about it, as I was pretty young. Fern, and my Mother, Virginia Quine, were in the Del Norte hospital to have babies at the same time. I was born on the 14th and Fern gave birth to Lee on the 15th. Fern and my Mother were best friends for many decades after that. Fern, Earl, and the children came to Arizona to visit my family at Easter for many years in the 1950s. My memories of those times are precious. After many decades of little contact, Fern, Ron, Lee and Catherine made contact again with me and my brother Tom in the summer of 2014. We all met in the valley and had a wonderful visit. Fern was the last of my parents' generation. I will remember her from the 1940s and '50s and from 2014 for as long as I have a memory. She had a wonderful long life, which is to be celebrated by all.
