Obituary for Lawrence Edward Naranjo

Lawrence Edward Naranjo
Lawrence E. Naranjo, a.k.a. “Grumpa”

Sanford resident, Lawrence E. Naranjo, passed away on November 14, 2016, after battling a debilitating illness for the past few years. The oldest of ten children, he was born on November 6, 1946, in Alamosa, CO to Juan (Willie) and Frances Naranjo. He had just celebrated his 70th birthday. He lived a very simple, humble life; and his sense of humor, caring heart, and gift of gab attracted the attention of others and provided him with a diverse group of friends and acquaintances. He was a hard-working man all of his life; however, a disability required him to retire. This, however, did not stop him from serving his community. Three passions brought much joy to his life – serving God, spending time with his family, and being an avid sports fan, especially when it came to the Denver Broncos. Until his most recent illness forced him to slow down, he was a very active member of St. Joseph’s Parish (Capulin) in which he was an alter server, extraordinary minister, and a member of the Parish Council. He was also a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #2096 in Alamosa where he attended and participated in council meetings, served the general public with the many activities and services they provide, and he also helped out with the bingos on a regular basis. Lawrence was a family man. His family was his pride and joy and he enjoyed spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and siblings.

He leaves behind his son Paul (Pat) Naranjo and grand-daughter Marísa; son Joseph Naranjo and grandchildren Josiah and Sindy; daughter Berna (Paul) Casias and grandchildren Luis, Paul, Chad, Kimberly, David, and Carmen; son Bobby (Patty) Medina and grandson Robert. Siblings include John (Theresa) Naranjo, Tom Naranjo, Victor (Shelly) Naranjo, Isabell (Jerry) Ortega, Teresa (Elipio) Valdez, Raymond Naranjo, Andy Naranjo, Rita Naranjo, and Danny (Pam) Naranjo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Juan (Willie) and Frances Naranjo, son Bobby Naranjo, and grandson Carlo Naranjo.

He will be missed by many. All services will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara with the Recitation of the Rosary on Friday, November 18, 2016, at 7:00 PM and the Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 11:00 AM. Cremation was chosen; therefore, there will not be a viewing. .
