The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Ida Sackett can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Ida Sackett

Alamosa resident, Ida Marie Sackett, 93, died December 16, 2017 at the San Luis Care Center. She was born September 29, 1924 in Newell, South Dakota to John Salmen and Mary Sophia Makela Salmen. Her father, mother, and all of her 6 brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death.

Ida Marie married William A. Snell in 1943. They settled in Greenville, Mississippi. Their children are Joan M. Beals of Monte Vista, Co., William L. Snell (Beverly) of Bethel, Conn., Robert C. Snell (Wanda) of Lake, Miss., and Mary Wesley (Terry Robertson) of Salida, Co. Ida lived briefly in Cedar Rapids, Iowa after her divorce. She then moved to Monte Vista, Co. In 1992 she married Charles H. Sackett and lived in South Fork.

Ida Marie is survived by her children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Some of Ida Marie's fondest memories were of her time growing up with her family in the Black Hills of South Dakota. She would come home from school in Deadwood to the smell of freshly baked donuts and Finnish flat bread. She carried that memory on by making them for her children. Big meals shared with family always remained a great pleasure for her. She leaves many pictures of Thanksgiving and Christmas food and those sitting around the table eating.

Cremation was chosen and entrusted to Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa with a private family memorial service to be held at a later date.
