Obituary for Janet Joyce Collins (Johnson)
Antonito resident Janet Joyce Collins, 65, died January 21, 2018 at The Bridge at Alamosa assisted living facility, after a long battle with a neurological disorder.
Janet’s life began in Albuquerque, New Mexico on May 16, 1952, the only daughter of Virgil and Gladys Friedmeyer Johnson. She married Michael L. Collins in Albuquerque, N.M. on August 12, 1972.
Janet worked in health care for 30 years as a Medical Technologist for the University of New Mexico. Following her retirement in 2005, she and her husband moved to Conejos County. Janet loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking and sewing for them. She was a dedicated wife, mother and hard worker.
She is survived by her husband Michael Collins of Antonito, CO; her children Meisha (Andrew) Britton and their children Sora and Xavier of El Segundo, California, Anika (Nevin) Garcia and their daughter Dakota and son Nevin III of Albuquerque, NM, and Korrie (Marc) Mabray and daughters Elin and Lane of San Francisco, CA.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents who were the youngest of their families.
