I met Guy, Clifford and Mildred in the mid-1960's when we moved to our ranch a 1/2 miles down the road from the McArthur place.  I was a young teenager then and I quickly got to know that Guy was this tall funny fellow who could fix just about anything.  Guy, Clifford and Mildred seemed to goad each other on relating funny insights about farming life and human behavior in general.  

Guy always helped his mom with her beautiful flowers and garden as well as keeping their and all their neighbors' farming equipment running.  He saved my neck many times fixing our equipment.  Repairs always came with a big dose of humor and good will.  I recall one time we were covered from head to toe with hydraulic oil while fixing our hay stacker.  He thought it was funny and eventually convinced me that it was. His garage with all his tools, kept meticulously clean and in order was a sacred place.  He made Magic happen in there! 

With the passing of Cindy, then Clifford and then Mildred, Guy's life became more solitary in some ways, but in others it expanded as he started working for the Auction, fixing school buses and the farm equipment of neighbors.  

When I made my annual Christmas visit to Guy with my family's gift of edible goodies he always greeted me with a warm smile, a big laugh and a long conversation, that was always interesting, wise and funny.

In the last few years the tall strong man I first met became stooped and moved more slowly.   His big, strong and skilled hands became stiff and frustrated him.

Guy was a pillar of my life on our ranch as a friend and dependable support whatever the issue might  be.

My family and I will miss him.  

May the Angels take him into paradise. May the Martyrs greet him on his way.  May he see the face of God today.
